Section 2: Compression - A survival guide: Compress the data, not the quality
Managing video content across converged infrastructures requires an understanding of the techniques available to reduce data rates to levels suitable for efficient storage, processing, networking, distribution and broadcasting. In addition the growing interest in High Definition increases the pressure for further reductions in data rate. Quality must be preserved in production, to ensure multiple passes and digital effects can be implemented without undue image degradation. This session will explore the many facets of video compression in both the production and transmission environments, and provide an overview and practical understanding of the principles of compression and how recent developments in software and hardware deliver improved performance. |
