Session 1: Radio Renaissance
 
Session Chairman: Dr Roland K. C. Tan, Vice President, Radio & Mobile Media Technology, MediaCorp Technologies, Singapore
   
Roland Tan pursued his studies at the University of Essex (UK) and earned a B.Eng. (1st Hons) degree in 1990 and PhD degree in 1994 in electronics engineering. His postgraduate studies on audio coding were funded by Meridian Audio (UK) and the ORS (UK) awards.

Tan was in the R&D industries in Singapore for more than seven years and was involved in audio & speech research. In June 2001, Tan joined MediaCorp Radio Singapore and is now the Vice President of Radio & Mobile Media Technology under MediaCorp Technologies.

He is a member of the AES, IEEE, Singapore DAB Forum, and the WorldDMB Asia Committee (WAC). A co-founding member of the AES Singapore Section in 1994, he was Chairman (1996–98) and AES Governor (2001-2003). In October 2002, he received the AES Citation Award in recognition for his work in Southeast Asia and in the formation of the Singapore Section.

 
Charles W. Kelly Jr., Director, International Sales, Nautel Limited
   
Educated at the University of Illinois, Parkland College and Illinois State University. Worked in Radio since 1973. Formerly with ITC/3M and Broadcast Electronics, now Director, International Sales for Nautel. Former President of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, current Chairman, International Committee.
 
Daniel Siu, Product Marketing Manager, FutureWaves UK Limited
   
Daniel has more than 12 years experience in semiconductor industry, and had worked in international enterprises including Motorola Semiconductors, Cadence Design Systems and ASTRI. Daniel has covered different function aspects in the semiconductor product life cycle, including IC Design, Field Application Engineering, Technical Marketing and Product Sales. During the years in ASTRI, Daniel was in the role of Senior Manager, Market Development, where led the business development and project team of the China DMB-TH Baseband Receiver Project funded by Hong Kong Government. At Future Waves, Daniel serves as Product Marketing Manager, responsible for managing the product marketing strategies, business development and lifecycles of the company’s Digital Radio and TV broadcast receiver solutions.
 
Guy Gampell, Sales Manager - Asia Pacific Region, APT
   
Guy Gampell has more than 20 years in the broadcast, recording, and post production industries, and has contributed greatly to industry debates in Europe, USA and Asia. Over the years Gampell has been actively involved in the development of many digital audio technologies including high resolution recording, automation systems, media management systems, and most recently audio compression solutions. Gampell joined APT in 2005 as Sales Manager – Asia Pacific Region and since then has overseen tremendous growth in the adoption of APT codecs and the apt-X algorithms across the territory especially in Japan, Australia, Korea and most notably India.
 
Lindsay Cornell, Principal Systems Architect, BBC
   
Lindsay Cornell has worked for the BBC for almost 20 years, initially as a design engineer for high-end digital video systems components. He has concentrated on radio since 1993. From 2001 to 2004 he was Head of Digital Radio, BBC Radio & Music, responsible for the roll-out of BBC national DAB services and coverage, and the development of data content on various digital platforms. He is currently Principal Systems Architect for the BBC's Future Media & Technology division. He consults in the areas of digital radio systems and re-engineering of playout, distribution and transmission systems.
 
Anthony Sethill, CEO, Frontier Silicon Limited
   
Anthony founded Frontier Silicon in 2001. His previous roles include Head of Sales & Marketing for Samsung UK, Managing Director of Amstrad and Executive Director/General Manager of BDB (ONdigital).
 
Joan Warner, Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Radio Australia
   
Joan Warner took the role of Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Radio Australia in July 2001. She has experience at the most senior levels of the public and private sectors across a range of industries and policy areas such as legal and financial services, education and training, tourism, employment and fast moving consumer goods. Recently she led the industry’s complex and intensive lobbying effort which resulted in the Federal Government’s policy announcement for digital radio. Ms Warner has held executive roles at Phillips Fox lawyers, Australian Centre for Global Finance, George Weston Foods and Telstra, and also advised Ministers and Opposition spokespeople at State and Federal level on a range of areas. She holds four degrees including an MBA and a Master of Education.
 
 

 
Session 2: News and Sports Technology
 
Session Chairman: Lim Chin Siang, Director, IT & Technology , Media Development Authority Singapore
   
Lim Chin Siang is Director, IT and Technology for the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore. He oversees the IT deployment, application development and databases of MDA. On the technology side, he provides input and advices on all aspects of transmission technologies – radio, terrestrial, cable, satellite and Internet. He was a member of the Singapore Digital TV Technical Committee. Presently, he also sits on the Telecommunications Standards Advisory Committee of IDA.

Chin Siang started work in 1979 as a QC engineer. Two years later, he was transferred to work on electronically-tuned car radios and Citizen Band transceivers as a development engineer.

In 1983 he joined the then National Productivity Board to start a video resource centre (VRC). The VRC is a fully-equipped broadcast-grade production and recording centre with its own studio, outdoor production equipment, editing suites and sound booth. As the Director of VRC, Chin Siang developed and conducted various engineering courses – Video Engineering, Digital Video Engineering, Low-noise Audio Design, and RF Engineering. He also took on the marketing function for the centre.

Before joining the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (the former name of MDA) in 1998, he spent another 3years in the private sector doing pager design and development.

Lim Chin Siang has a B. Sc. (1st Class Hons) in Physics, an MBA and an MSc with majors in communications/computer science.
 
Hiroshi Tomita, Cameraman, NHK Japan
   
Graduated Musashino Art University (Japanese Art) in 1993. Entered Broadcast Engineering Department of NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in the same year. Has been working For 14 years as a cameraman of Human and Nature Documentaries and has the skill of under water filming.
 
Keith Pierce, Head of Technology, Aljazeera English
   

Keith Pierce has spent all of his working life in the broadcasting arena, either as a manufacturing representative or as an end user. These activities have covered 75% of the World, with only South America on the still to be visited list. From 405 monochrome to 1080i, Keith has witnessed many changes in the origination and delivery of television signals. Operational experiences on the various projects have assisted in developing an extensive understanding of the cost effective solutions needed for the industry to develop and expand.

 
Goh Kim Soon , Vice President, New Media Technologies, Mediacorp Technologies
   

Mr. Goh is the Vice President of New Media Technology for MediaCorp Pte Ltd. His responsibilities include scouting, evaluating, developing & exploring new media technology to meet his company’s needs.

Before joining the New Media Technology department, he had held office in various areas within MediaCorp, including engineering, transmission, programme playout and strategic planning.

Prior to joining MediaCorp, he worked in a telecommunication company in the satellite and microwave transmission area.

Mr. Goh obtained his B. Eng (1st Class Honour) and M. Sc in Electrical Engineering from National University of Singapore.

 
Doug Stevens , Transmission Manager, TVNZ
   

Doug Stevens is TVNZ’s Transmission Manager and he is responsible for all contribution and distribution linking, as well as the multi-channel presentation and playout of TVNZ’s five channels. He has previously been a member of the once popular TVNZ Satellite Services business, which has delivered the Olympic Games to ABU member countries on many occasions.

 
 
 

 
Session 3: DVB World @ BroadcastAsia
 
Session Chairman: John Bigeni, Principal Consultant, JJB Associates, Australia
   

John Bigeni graduated from the University of New South Wales with an honors degree in Electronics Engineering in 1963.Since graduation Mr. Bigeni has been involved in the Broadcasting industry in both Radio and Television where he has held a variety of positions ranging from design engineering roles in his earlier career through to project management and later in a number of executive engineering management positions. These included the position of Director of Engineering to the Special Broadcasting Service and the position of Head of Engineering TV for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

On an International level Mr. Bigeni has had a long close association with the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union and was the Chairman of its Engineering Committee until 1996 a position he held for a number of years. Mr. Bigeni is now involved in the Broadcasting Industry as a private consultant and is also associated with DVB in this capacity.

 
Stephane Palomba, APAC Business Development Director, Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Broadcast
   

Stéphane Palomba has been the APAC Business Development Director of Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Broadcast since early 2008. Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Broadcast is Alcatel-Lucent’s internal venture dedicated to mobile broadcast TV solutions.

From 2004 to 2007, Stéphane was in charge of supporting all Alcatel-lucent’s European 3G Video Projects.

Previously, in 2002/2003, Stephane was involved with Canal+ Technologies in the launch of the Canal Satellite Pilotime project (DVB MHP).

In 2001/2002, Stéphane worked with Phili ps in Paris in the Advanced Development team focusing on DVB MHP projects.

Stephane Palomba started his career in 1999 in the Digital Media Institute of Tampere in Finland working for a Digital TV project funded by Nokia and Yle TV.

 
Chris Hibbert, Vice President Media Technologies and Standards, Walt Disney Company
   

Chris Hibbert is Vice President Media Technologies and Standards with The Walt Disney Company. He has been an active member of the DVB Project since its inception and is a member of the DVB Steering Board. He was made a fellow of the UK Royal Television Society in 1999

Chris Hibbert is a founding member of the UK Digital Television Group (DTG) and a founder director of DTG Test Ltd, the UK open platform comformance and testing centre.

As chair of the DVB Content Protection Technology group he has lead the 30-plus member company activity to develop the DVB Content Protection & Copy Management specification which is to be published as an ETSI standard.

 
Gerard FARIA, Executive Director, TeamCast – France
   

Gerard FARIA is the Executive Director and co-founder of TeamCast in Rennes, France. He graduated in 1978 from the Technical University of Paris VI (France)

In 1988, he co-founded the ITIS company where he managed the R&D engineers team, conceived most of the company’s DAB and DVB products and participated to major European Collaborative Research projects working on Digital Radio & Digital TV broadcasting systems (VALIDATE, MOTIVATE, iTTi, Witness, MCP, IM4DTTV).

In 2003, Gerard FARIA with Jean-Luc PAVY & Eric SPAMPINATO, founded TeamCast, a startup Company aiming “to be the preferred partner of the Digital Broadcast actors”.

Gerard FARIA is currently involved in numerous European Collaborative Research projects dealing with Digital Broadcast & Mobile TV. Since 2007, Gerard FARIA co-ordinate a large Eureka/CELTIC project “B21C” which involves 35 partners from 6 European countries, to work in liaison with DVB on “Broadcast for the 21st Century” embracing DVB-H / DVB-SH and DVB-T2.

As member of the DVB forum, Gerard FARIA participated actively to the DVB Technical works: in 2004 he wrote the DVB-H Physical Layer specifications ETSI EN 300 744 v1.5.1 (2004-11), in 2005 he co-ordinated the DVB-H Validation Task Force work and produced its report ETSI TR 102 401 v1.1.1 (2005-06).

Gerard FARIA is the company’s representative for the International conferences, Technical seminars and International Forums driving the Terrestrial Digital Broadcast technologies.

 
Peter Macavock, Executive Director, Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB)
   

Peter MacAvock is the Executive Director of the DVB Project, responsible for the team charged with the day-to-day running of the DVB Project. He is an Irish national living and working in Switzerland.

Involved in DVB since it was founded in 1993, Peter MacAvock has been responsible for shaping, documenting and demonstrating the suite of standards that form the basis of DVB systems. He is the principle standards co-ordinator for the project, is a member of Project’s senior executive board, is secretary to the DVB’s Steering Board and Technical Module and has been involved in a number of the key technical sub-groups. He has also managed European collaborative projects working in the area of DVB, and manages commercial activities associated with the implementation of the DVB standards.

Harald Skinnemoen, Chair, DVB TM-RCS Group
   

Harald Skinnemoen, President of AnsuR Technologies and Chairman DVB-RCS, was before Nera SatCom Chief Scientist. Dr. Skinnemoen has participated in a number of missions for the European Space Agency, European Commission and Inmarsat. He is frequent speaker at satellite and communications conferences, and has chaired/organized a number of conferences and published several papers. He served as Specialist Task Force Expert Leader ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), and the founding Chairman of the ETSI SES BSM workgroup. He served as expert to EU Commission and lecturer to Univ Delft Master of Space Engineering. He is AIAA member and Senior IEEE Member.

Session Chairman: Graham C. Stephens, Chief Technology Officer, Astro All Asia Networks plc, Malaysia
   
Graham has occupied the position of Chief Technology Officer of Astro All Asia Networks plc since 2005. His responsibilities include setting overall broadcast technology strategy for the AAAN Group of companies, enhancement of the Groups broadcasting and multimedia technology assets and advising the Board and senior management team on new business opportunities arising from the application of advanced technologies.

Prior to his current role, he was CTO of Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn. Bhd. operator of the Astro satellite pay-TV platform in Malaysia, holding various senior technical and operational roles within the company, since joining the founding team in 1995.

Before joining Measat Broadcast, Graham was Chief Engineer and Director of Operations at Thames Television, the UK’s largest independent terrestrial broadcaster. He has been involved in the development of digital broadcasting technologies for many years and was a founding member of the European Digital Video Broadcasting Group.

 
Jeffrey Soong, CEO, BNS Ltd
   
Jeffrey Soong is the CEO of BNS Ltd, a leading Asia-focused IPTV content and technology provider. Mr. Soong has over 20 years of experience in the fields
of entertainment, technology, and international finance, and is a recognized expert on the subject of entertainment and technology convergence. Prior to
co-founding BNS, he was CEO of Vodexa Networks, a U.S. technology company with major Hollywood studio clients. Mr. Soong holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and undertook Ph.D. scholarship studies in Computer Science at Caltech.
 
Giri Valliappan, Director of Market Development, Impala
   
Giri joined IMPALA as Director of Market Development in August 2007. Prior to this, he formed part of the start-up team at Cabot Communications, leading middleware technology supplier. He had several roles: engineering, product management, strategy/business development. In five years helped grow the company taking a 60 per cent share of the UK Freeview market and over eight million European-wide DTT deployments. Giri is already well known in the UK digital TV community having been involved early on with the MHEG-5 ISO Working Group, and actively contributed to various stakeholder and technical groups within the DTG, Freeview and DigiTAG.
 
Michael Henkel, Vice President - Broadcast Solutions, S|4|M Solutions for Media GmbH
   
Michael Henkel studied Computer Science in the USA and Germany and was able to collect extensive experience as executive at international companies like Bulldog and Documentum. He is looking back at more than 15 years of experience in working with broadcasters around the globe. He was Senior Technical Manager at SintecMedia before he joined S4M in summer 2006. At Solutions for Media he currently looks after the Asia-Pacific market, and is based out of Kuala Lumpur.

Alp Somyurek, Vice President, Business Development- EMEA, TVonics Limited
   
Alp Somyurek has been in the CE industry for 17 years. He started working at Vestel Electronics as an electronics engineer in 1990, and moved to the sales and marketing division, his last position being the head of sales, marketing and business development. Alp moved to Cabot Communications as deputy managing director in 2001, and Alp’s main responsibility was to bring in new customers and new business opportunities. The company held more than 70 percent market share in the UK’s DVB-T software market during Alp’s time. He has been Vice President for business development at Tvonics Ltd since July 2007.
 
Adam S. Tom, Co-Founder & Executive Vice President, RGB Networks
   
Recognized as a thought leader in video transmission technologies, Tom brings more than 20 years experience in digital compression and video transport to his position at RGB Networks.

Prior to co-founding RGB, Tom co-founded Imedia Corp., where he developed the product and business strategy for the company’s revolutionary statistical re-multiplexing technology — now standard equipment for digital video distribution for cable and satellite.

Before Imedia, Tom worked at General Instrument, where he designed the digital video decoder and transport system now widely used to deliver digital cable television. He was also a core member of the development team whose work produced the national standard for high-definition television (HDTV).

Keynote Presenter: Kenkichi TANIOKA Dr.Eng., Director-General, NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories
   

Dr. Tanioka joined NHK in 1966. Since 1976 he has been working for NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories. He received the DE degree from Tohoku University in 1994. He has been engaged in research on amorphous selenium photoconductive layer for use as camera tube targets. In 1985, he invented HARP (High- gain Avalanche Rushing amorphous Photoconductor) camera tube, which has ultra-high-sensitivity, utilizing avalanche multiplication phenomenon. He has contributed not only to the advanced broadcasting technologies but also to the fields other than broadcasting, e.g., observation of deep sea, astronomic objects, living cells, etc. He was appointed Director-General of NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories in 2006.

 
David Wood, Head, Emerging Media, European Broadcasting Union (EBU)
   
David Wood is Head of Emerging Media at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva.

He is a graduate of the Electronics Department at Southampton University in the UK and the Popov National Academy of Telecommunications, Odessa, Ukraine. He worked for the BBC and the former IBA in the UK, before joining the EBU.

Within the EBU, Mr. Wood works with the Digital Strategy Group of the Administrative Council, and a number of other groups involved with HDTV and new media.
 
Gert Zimmermann, CEO & Founder, filmtoolsConsult
   
Gert Zimmermann first became involved in television production in the USA at Warner Bros. in 1988 in Los Angeles. He went on to study American cultural history at the University of Munich where he was awarded an M.A. in that subject. In 1991 he started working at one of the first private TV channels in Germany, TELE 5. In 1997 he continued to work as a division manager for ProSiebenSat1 Production where he supervised the animation/visual effects division. In that time the division won five animago awards, various BDA/Promax awards and a monitor award.

Since then, Zimmermann wrote several articles on the post production and visual effects industry and has appeared at varios international conferences including IBC/Amsterdam or CSTB Conference/Moscow. From 1998-2000 Zimmermann also served as a board member at Areté Entertainment in Sherman Oaks. Since April 2001, Zimmermann is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Media Plus Program for the European Commission and holds teaching positions at German and Austrian Universities. He is founder of www.filmtoolsConsult.de. Major clients are the PLAZAMEDIA GROUP, ARRI, the European Commission, amm. Gert Zimmermann speaks German, English and French.

Currently Garry is working for Business & Professional Products Asia Pacific Company heading Professional Solutions and Services Division.

Garry has worked extensively in the Broadcast and Professional arena with his career spanning over 28 years with Sony Australia having held senior positions in Engineering Service, Marketing and Systems Integration.

Under Garry’s leadership and direction Sony Professional Solutions provides a wide range of Broadcast and Business and Industrial Solutions to the Asia Pacific region including turnkey Broadcast Production, Outside Broadcast, Security, Medical and Public Display Systems. Recent system solutions delivered by Sony in the region include High Definition TV Production Studios, High Definition OB Vans and Trailers, Automated TV Broadcast Play out systems and Remote Medical Monitoring Systems.

 
Yeung Kai Lun, Project Manager, Television Broadcasts Limited
   
KL Yeung has been working for Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) for 28 years, starting off working in the technical and operational areas including lighting, video, audio and computer technology. Later on he began overseeing studio production technical and operational domains.

From 2000 to 2003, Mr Yeung was Assistant Project Manager for the TKO Project, which established a huge new TV production and broadcasting center of TVB located at Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.

Mr Yeung is now the Project Manager for TVB’s Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcasting (DTTB) Project, which targets to establish the required systems for the Company’s digital terrestrial TV broadcasting services in Hong Kong (commencing December 31, 2007) incorporating both SD and HD (High Definition) TV Channels.

 
Tony Chow , Director, Off The Fence Pte Ltd
   

Tony Chow has been a pillar of the Singapore’s screen industry, as President of the independent producers’ association as well as an active practitioner in generating higher quality content for television programming and training schemes. He emanates from a broadcast television background as producer/writer and has worked extensively in the advertising and corporate areas of film, video and TV production. Holding a degree in political science from the National University of Singapore, Tony was a pioneer graduate of the Economic Development Board’s Broadcasting and Media Production Special Conversion program at the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

Known for his production support for local and international co-productions, he has produced, directed and written for high rating television series. Among them, a six-part one-hour documentary on popular dance trends,Happy Family , and ˜To cut a long Story Short, about the history and growth of the Singapore’s film industry. - to name just a few. Tony’s commercial background extends to television ads for diverse clients such as Canon, StarHub, and Levi’s.

Tony co-founded and managed a groundbreaking local media professional training academy, Media Hive Pte Ltd, now known as Digital Media Academy, a media industry professional development and training center. Creatively, Tony is also the Executive Producer of several digital feature films, as part of the Film Incubator Program with the Singapore Film Commission. Presently, Tony is the Director of Off The Fence Singapore. As Director of Off The Fence Singapore, Tony manages the business and strategic relationshi ps as part of Off the Fence expansion in Asia.

 
 
 

Session 6: Doing the Business in Broadcasting
 
Roger Crumpton, Director, The IABM
   
The IABM represents broadcasting and media technology suppliers worldwide. Roger was CEO of the IABM from 2005 to 2008 and now works in a part time role covering market intelligence, governmental representation and skills. He has more than 25 years experience as a company director and more than 15 years experience in managing technology trade associations. Originally trained as an electronics engineer, Roger has spent most of his working life in sales, marketing and general management for display systems and has been responsible for setting up, acquiring and managing businesses in the UK, USA, Germany and Norway. He is a member of the Partners Board of the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC).
 
Tom McVeigh, Senior VP Operations & Technology, ESPN Start Sports, Singapore
   
Tom is currently the Senior Vice President Operations and Technology for ESPNSTAR Sports based in Singapore. He has been with ESPNSTAR for nine years in various roles beginning as Director of Operations in November 1998 before being promoted to Vice President Operations and Engineering in 2000 and then Senior Vice President Operations and Technology in 2005. Tom began his career with TVNZ as a technical trainee working at a high power TV Transmitter site, he also had some experience in microwave network installation and maintenance before becoming involved in the installation of Avalon TV studios in Wellington NZ.He then moved to operational roles beginning with a stint in the transmission control centre before becoming a Technical Director and then being promoted to Project Executive heading up a combined team of Technical Directors and Technical Producers before relocating to Auckland NZ in 1990 as Studio Operations Manager.He was later promoted to Head of Operations for TVNZ- a role he filled for some years before moving to Singapore with ESPNSTAR SPORTS. Tom is also currently a member of the IBC Council.
 
Russell Grute, Director of Marketing, Pharos Communications, United Kingdom
Russell joined Sony Broadcast in 1982, learning quality-assurance, international field service, product management and finally professional audio sales. At TSL he worked with many new tapeless projects including TWI Mediahouse, Red Bee Media, CNBC Pakistan, ProTV/CME Group, ESPN Star Sports in Singapore and, NRK’s Programme Bank Project in Oslo. Russell progressed to Pharos in 2007, where he now manages all aspects of product marketing and marketing communications. David MacGregor is founder and Managing Director of Television Systems Ltd (TSL).

David started his career at EMI Electronics Ltd designing early colour television equipment. He moved on to spend a number of years working in the ITV sector of UK television with Thames TV, Grampian TV, and Yorkshire TV. A two year interlude in the mid 1970s was spent setting up and operating a new TV station in the Sultanate of Oman.
Following four years as Chief Engineer of Seltech International, a UK based equipment distributor, David with colleague Brian Cuff formed TSL to concentrate on Systems Integration.

TSL has grown to be one of the world’s largest independent systems companies having completed projects of all sizes throughout the world for a long list of prestigious clients, taking their plans “from design to reality”.

Erina Tobing is presently appointed as the Advisor to Board of Directors of the Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) for Engineering. She is the former Director of Engineering, TVRI, the biggest Television network in Indonesia. Erina has had extensive experiences as a broadcaster since she joined TVRI in 1982. During her twenty seven years service, she had been given many assignments not only in Engineering, but also in Production, where she was once appointed as the Director of Production. Apart from broadcasting, she also contributed in Education as a part time faculty member in private Universities in Jakarta, teaching Electronics and Telecommunications technology.

Erina holds a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Interdisciplinary in 1989 from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Bandung (ITB), Indonesia. In addition to her formal education, Erina had various professional trainings in Television Technology, Management, Leadership and Business, both in country and abroad.

She is also actively involved in international activities, including in the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), where she has joined since 1990 and contributed as an Engineering Bureau member for six years. She has a great interest in future television technology and its implications, shown in her consistent participation in activities related to digital technology implementation. She was a member of the Indonesian National Team for the Migration to Digital, and was appointed as the Coordinator for digital trial test in Indonesia. Currently, Erina also assists some private companies as a digital TV consultant and advisor.

Raghu Puri is Managing Director, APAC responsible for the Transmission Networks Business for Scientific-Atlanta, A CISCO Company across APAC. The Transmission Networks Business represents products for Transmission of Video across Satellite and Terrestrial Networks in support of Content Providers (Programmers/Broadcasters/Aggregators), Cable Operators and Telco’s. Within APAC the Transmission Networks business has a presence in Region Focused Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing/Operations and Global R&D. In addition, his responsibility includes managing Scientific-Atlanta ( Shanghai) Company Ltd., a Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE) of Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. The Scientific-Atlanta ( Shanghai) Company subsidiary, originally operated since 1993 as a joint vesture company, focuses its business initiatives on developing and manufacturing digital technology products for the burgeoning China market and extending that technology for applications all across Asia and Emerging Markets.

Prior to his current assignment, Puri was responsible for strategy development and execution for Scientific-Atlanta’s Transmission Networks business. As Director of Business Strategy, he was responsible for identification of new business opportunities including IPTV, developing strategy and managing its execution with emphasis on International Markets. Since joining Scientific-Atlanta in 1994, Puri has held various management roles in Business Development, Sales, Product Management and Marketing.

Puri has over 15 years experience in broadband communications. Prior to joining Scientific-Atlanta, he was with Sprint from 1988 to 1993. Among his various roles, he was responsible for marketing products to mid-level enterprise accounts and re-engineering Sprint’s field sales and customer service operations.

He received his Bachelor’s in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, and has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Missouri.

David Wood is Head of Emerging Media at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva.

He is a graduate of the Electronics Department at Southampton University in the UK and the Popov National Academy of Telecommunications, Odessa, Ukraine. He worked for the BBC and the former IBA in the UK, before joining the EBU.

Within the EBU, Mr. Wood works with the Digital Strategy Group of the Administrative Council, and a number of other groups involved with HDTV and new media.
 
Aaron Shaw, Director, Broadcast Engineering, CNBC Asia
   
Aaron Shaw is Director, Broadcast Engineering for CNBC Asia in Singapore and has 25 years of experience in broadcast engineering and operations, 15 of them in Asia. Prior to transferring to CNBC Asia, he was Director, Broadcast Operations & Engineering for CNBC Arabiya in Dubai where he managed the both the Dubai operations and the building and on-going operations of news bureau across the Middle East. In 2005 he planned and project managed the launch of CNBC Pakistan. Aaron has an MBA from Durham University, UK, and was named 2006 Middle East Broadcast Engineer of the Year.

Chris Lennon is an industry veteran with more than 20 years experience in the broadcast industry. He currently serves as director of integration and standards, Software Systems, for Harris Broadcast Communications. Lennon is chair and founder of SMPTE's S22-10 group, which is responsible for BXF. He also co-founded the ATSC group that created PMCP, enabling PSIP-related data to flow between broadcast systems. Lennon serves as a Harris Broadcast representative on various industry committees, and is a regular industry speaker and author. Lennon received his formal education at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Mr Fabio Gattari was born in 1958. His activity begins in 1980 when he founded G.B.Elettronica, a company dealing with radio broadcasting systems installation and maintenance.

During the years 1982 – 1985 he has worked as a programmer of both notary and legal office management software together with building site accounting management one and in 1985 he graduated in Electronic Engineering.

In 1986 he was a ETERE S.r.l. founder partner, the first Italian company producing TV and Radio broadcasting software and automation systems.

In 1992 he created the first audio digital broadcasting system based on PCs, local network connected and the next year he obtained CNE (Certified Novell Engineer).

In 1994 he founded SKYBUS S.r.l., a company specialized in satellite digital systems management for the most important Italian radio syndication. Today he has undertaken several partnerships with major companies both in Italy and abroad.

Max d'Oreye joined Newtec in 1998 and holds the position of Vice President of Marketing. He has more than 14 years of professional experience in the broadcast and satellite industry and is a specialist of video encoding and satellite transmission technologies and products.

Mike’s career spans 33 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 20 years in Mobile Communications. He was appointed Contracts Director of Cellnet in 1989 dealing with major infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements. In 1993 the focus moved to launching Cellnet’s GSM service and establishing Roaming Agreements.

He was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on their Executive Board for 5 years. He has also served as a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force and UK OSAB (Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board) until 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Mike has chaired the MDA since 1998, leading the Association as Chairman /spokesperson and on Public Policy.

He was appointed VP Technology for O2 Group in 2000, Visiting Professor at Surrey University in 2003 and to the Coventry University Board in 2006. He is a Fellow of BCS/CIPS/RGS, a Member of IET and the Royal Television Society.

Mike’s focus today is on Third Generation cellular, Mobile TV and steering Telefonica O2 Europe’s Group Research and Development in mobile.

 
Colin Miles, EVP & Co-Founder, i-POP Networks Pte Ltd
   
Colin has evangelised the marketing power and revenue-generating potential of mobile services through strategic alliances with blue-chip companies such as ESPN, MTV, CNN, FremantleMedia, Sony Pictures and Nokia. Colin plays a key role in the pioneering of interactive mobileprojects in Asia, particularly where SMS and rich media content are used to interact with audiences. Francois Lefebvre, Senior Research Engineer, Communications Research Centre Canada
   
Mr. Lefebvre has over 15 years of R&D experience in multimedia systems and applications. He joined the Broadcast Technology branch at the Communications Research Centre in 1999 and is currently leading the Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting project. Prior to this he spent 10 years in Germany where he was involved in several projects as developer and project leader. He holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Laval University, Quebec, Canada. His most recent works focus on systems and software building blocks for next generation mobile broadcasting applications.
 
Giulio Dorrucci, Founder, Chairman & CEO of PGK Media Pte Ltd Founder & CEO of Singapore Digital Pte Ltd
   
Giulio Dorrucci has been actively developing and studying interactive and broadcasting technologies for more than 18 years. Since 1987, he joined the research and development departments of Eidos SpA under the European Funds Associations and the Television University Centre of Milan pioneering the development of interactive programming and digital optical solutions. He than funded CDLight Srl, a groundbreaking company specialized in interactive training devices in co-operation with Sony Italia.

In 2001, he founded PGK Media Pte Ltd (Singapore), a research and development centre responsible for Singapore’s nascent digital broadcasting technologies. Under his leadership, PGK’s milestones include the largest outdoor media trial with Comfort Taxi and several world-first Digital Media Projects. In 2007 he launched TV2GO, the first Digital Mobile TV broadcasting trial in Singapore with nationwide transmission of premium live channels and interactive TV services. In 2008 he founded SingaporeDigital Pte Ltd (Singapore), an Independent Broadcast Network Provider to deliver Mobile TV services, in Joint Venture with BroadcastAustralia Pty Ltd which owns and operates on of the most extensive broadcasting infrastructure in Australia.

Today, he is the Chairman of Singapore DAB Development Forum and Partner of IDM Project Office under the FutureScape Initiative, both within the Media Development Authority of Singapore, and is tasked with the promotion of digital convergence in Asia. Giulio is also a member of the Singapore Advertising Association and a Foundation Member of the Singapore International Advertising Congress under the Institute of Advertising Singapore.

 
Jeff Astle, Asia Pacific Advisor, WorldDMB Forum
   
Jeff played a central role in setting up and launching Digital One (the UK’s national commercial digital radio network), where he provided strategic business planning and marketing expertise and helped to build partnerships with manufacturers and retailers to bring DAB products to market.

He now works on radio industry development initiatives ensuring the continued rollout of DAB digital radio around the world. He advises and represents WorldDMB in the Asia-Pacific region and works as a business consultant for DRDB (UK’s Digital Radio Development Bureau) and Digital One. He is a regular international speaker on the DAB digital radio business.

He has over 15 years experience, mainly in the media industry, in a variety of strategic development, business planning & marketing roles. He has an MA in Marketing and professional qualifications in management accounting and marketing.

 
Quentin Howard, President, World DMB
   
Quentin Howard was elected President of WorldDMB in 2005 prior to which he served as a member of the Steering Board for eight years. His main role is that of Chief Executive of Digital One, the UK’s national commercial DAB multiplex company. He is also a director of the UK’s Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB) and APT Ltd, a company providing digital audio compression equipment. He was also a founder director of Frontier Silicon, one of the leading DAB and DMB silicon chip makers.

Quentin is well known throughout the DAB community, and is credited with having pioneered commercial DAB digital radio in the UK. The company he founded, Digital One, began transmission in November 1999 and operates a network of over 100 DAB transmitters to serve 90% of the British population.

An electrical and electronics graduate, Quentin Howard has 30 years experience in commercial radio broadcasting holding many posts including Director of Engineering, Programme Director and as an occasional radio presenter. He built the UK’s most successful commercial radio station Classic FM and its national network of transmitters. Quentin has also received several awards his radio broadcasting and technology achievements including several Sony Radio Awards. In 2004, WorldDAB conferred the Per Erik Selemark Award for his services to DAB.

 
Dr. Jon Won Eun, Vice President, World DMB
   
Dr. Eun is one of the special fellows in the ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Korea, where he has not only been working as the international marketer for promoting the T-DMB in the Asian and African countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Ghana, but also as an engineer for the development of satellite communications since he had joined the ETRI from the U.S.A.

Recently, Dr. Eun greatly made substantial contribution to provision of the T-DMB system to both Ghana and Indonesia, respectively. Dr. Eun is also currently serving as Vice President of the WorldDMB Forum and Chairman of its Asia Committee.

 
Hai Nan, Vice General Manager, Beijing Jolon
   
The Beijing Radio Station is the only operator of mobile digital broadcasting in Beijing. There are currently eight channels on FM, one channel of cable TV program and one channel of IPTV. Also, there are twenty channels of Digital Audio Broadcasting, six channels of trail Digital Multimedia Broadcasting programs and a Data Service program which is based on the Digital Broadcasting board.

Beijing Jolon Digital Media Broadcasting Co., Ltd., which was the sole subsidiary of Beijing Radio Station, has been established since January 2005 and is in charge of the development of DAB/DMB technology and commercial operations.

Mr. Nan was awarded a Bachelor’s degree from Beijing’s Information Technology Institute. He has worked in the Radio Beijing Corporation since 2004. He has several decades of experience in software design, computer development, and business management.

 
Feng Zou, Vice President, Academy Broadcasting Science
   
Feng Zou is the Deputy President of Academy of Broadcasting Science (ABS), State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), Senior Engineer (Professor), Senior Member of Chinese Institute of Electronics-CIE Member of China Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

In July 1984, Mr Zou received his BSc. Degree from Nanjing University and joined Academy of Broadcasting Science, State Administration of Radio Film and Television. He has worked as the Director of the Radio Institute of ABS since March 1999, and the Director of Radio TV Meterage and Test Centre since December 1999. He has been the Deputy President of the Academy of Broadcasting Science, SARFT, since December 1999.
Mr Zou has drafted eight Chinese national standards and played an active and leading role in projects in many fields, including: digital audio broadcasting, digital television, satellite broadcasting and frequencies and the planning of terrestrial digital broadcasting. He has had more than ten papers and two monographs published.

Mr Zou set up the first DAB laboratory of China for ABS and participated in designing and establishing the Guangdong DAB pilot network and Beijing Langfang-Tianjin DAB SFN. He led the project which drafted the China industrial Digital Audio Broadcasting standards. Mr Zou is currently in charge of frequency planning of terrestrial digital broadcasting in China.

 
Joost Verbrugge, Market Development Director, Newtec Cy N.V.
   
Joost Verbrugge is market development director for Newtec, a Belgium based specialist in satellite communications. Joost started his career in 1976 with Barco, as a design engineer for broadcast video monitors. He was appointed as General Manager of Barco Video and Communications in 1989. From 1995, Mr. Verbrugge was president of Barco Asia, based in Hong Kong. In 1999, he became CEO of BarcoNet, the broadband spin-off of Barco, in 2002 acquired by Scientific Atlanta, now a Cisco company. Joost holds a degree in electronics (PIH, Kortrijk, Belgium, 1976) and completed an AMP/ISMP program at Harvard Business School (1995).
 
Leong-Yan Yoong, Head of Music, TV & Video, Go-To-Market, Services & Software, Southeast Asia Pacific, Nokia
   
Leong-Yan Yoong was appointed Head of Music, TV & Video, Go-To-Market, Services & Software team in Nokia’s Southeast Asia Pacific, effective 1 January 2008. Leong and his team are responsible for driving the Nokia Music, TV & Video services in the region, including the Nokia Music Store, DVB-H Mobile TV, and the Nokia Video Center applications.

A regular presenter at entertainment workshops and panels across the region on mobility, Leong engages key stakeholders in the digital entertainment ecosystem, ranging from the record labels, broadcasters, content developers and mobile operators.

Leong has had 12 years regional experience in the field of Mobile Entertainment and Media. Prior to joining Nokia, he spent 5 years at the regional office for MTV Asia leading the advertising and sponsorship sales team, as senior director for sales.

Some of his key achievements at MTV Asia include launching the first fully integrated Mobile to TV interactive program called MTV U-Pop in 2000, as well as serving as one of MTV’s Executive Producers for its first local video music awards shows in Indonesia and the Philippines in 2001. In 2002, Leong also launched MTV Asia’s first commercial mobile entertainment downloads service across six countries in the region. Leong started his media career at MediaCorp Singapore as an Account Executive in advertising sales

Leong has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and a Bachelors of Science (in Marketing) Degree from Indiana University (Bloomington) in the US.

Prior to joining Qualcomm, May Yin Oh was Senior Vice President at STAR Ventures, a division of News Corporation’s media and entertainment subsidiary, STAR, with responsibility for the value maximization of each of STAR’s joint ventures. During her time with STAR, Ms. Oh also held the position of Vice President for Distribution and Marketing, as well as Vice President of the Digitisation and Encryption Project at the STAR / Koos joint venture with China Network Systems in Taiwan, where she managed a multi-unit project team for the roll-out of digital interactive television.
 
Richard C. Redmond, Director, Strategic Marketing, Harris Corporation
   
Richard Redmond is Director of Strategic Marketing for Harris Corporation’s Broadcast Communications Transmission Business Unit. In this role, he is responsible for all of the business unit’s business development, strategy and marketing efforts globally including leading digital radio and mobile TV growth initiatives. Redmond is based in at BCD headquarters in Mason, Ohio.
Most recently, Redmond served as Director of Radio Product Line Management, he has focused on adding key products, technologies and services that enable radio broadcasters to transition from analog to digital as smoothly and cost effectively as possible. Previously he was responsible for the television systems integration business, and held several sales management positions.
Prior to joining Harris in 1997, he held national sales management responsibilities for broadcast equipment for Northeast Broadcast Labs, where he had been employed since 1990. Before joining Northeast Broadcast Lab, Redmond is various positions at several radio stations including, General Manager, Chief Engineer and technical consultant.
A member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the Audio Engineering Society he has authored and presented on a number of broadcast technology topics globally.
